Man, I can't even check my own email.

Good thing I was squinting when I went to the page, I saw a vague picture of Steve Jobs, apple logo in background. With...well, I couldn't make it out, thank God, but even if I did I wouldn't post it here :o

*My personal favorite idea would be for Apple to acquire Atari dirt-cheap. This would give Apple a large library of classic titles that could be ported to the iPod, not to mention giving Apple a brand that could be used to pump out OS X "compatible" computers geared towards gamers in order to boost gaming on OS X overall

SOMEone wrote a few days ago that the itv may be a major way to get games into the apple world. The itv has been described by some as a super ipod. Well, they just intro'd ipod games. maybe use that usb on the itv box to plug in a couple of usb game controllers.... and you're off!

This is America. If the man wants a small house, let him have a small house (The blueprints are for a house smaller than mine, so I call it "small"). If he wanted to live in the back of an El Camino, that's his right also.

Personally, I like old houses and hate the look of modern homes, but that's just me. I also live in what would be considered a larger home, as I have 8 kids and need some space. But I also have a few acres, so the house isn't stuck right next to my neighbors.

However, I did not build my house to compete with or impress the neighbors. Neither did Steve.

Why is Apple the only tech company that makes unique products? All the other big ones seem to just drop in behind Apple after they invent something...
Actually they're not the only tech company that makes unique products. You probably need to turn your iMac off and go outside more :p

There's plenty of good things being produced by non-apple companies. Yeah apple makes some good things, but they're not the be all and end all on electronics.

There is also no way of telling if you have a display with the newer specs or not, since there isn't another product code for this.
    Oh yes there is.

Well, stuff like iScroll2 - the two-finger scrolling hack for older Macs like my Powerbook - was able to be developed because of freely-accessible Darwin source code. I'd imagine the tun/tap 3rd party virtual devices + drivers (needed by openvpn) also wouldn't have been feasible if the developer couldn't get at the kernel source.

Right now the osx86 project is of little interest to the public at large, since it's not like you get a box that is particularly useful to someone that doesn't want to tweak incessantly (sound may or may not work, networking may not work, printing may not work, etc.). But I imagine Apple wants to keep forcing them to re-solve the basic functionality issues over and over, so they don't get to the point where the average user would actually find it worthwhile to investigate this.

would anyone care to explain why the uk price for a 30" cinema display is 1549 whereas in the US it is $1999 (around 1054.71) even with VAT included this still only comes to 1,239.28 - so why the huge margin...I guess it's not called rip-off Britain for nothing eh...Excluding VAT, my edu disc price is 1,213.00. I'm sorely tempted to order.

    hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.........

Whoever spends their time looking at adverts is a lost cause and has no life. Seriously I think this is the most ridiculous thing apple has come up with.

Dear macrumors newbie and all the others who simply don't get this,

I can only assume none of you have either a creative or entrepreneurial gene in your bodies. Even if all you hope to be is moderately successful at communicating, an appreciation of the work of ad agencies would be useful.

I designed my first ad when I was 19. It was a poster for a charity disco. We made money. Unconsciously I had distilled all the information I needed from all the ads I'd seen up to that point, and made something that worked. It was never as easy ever again.

If you ever want to be really successful and maybe even wealthy, then this app is vital. All the current iAds in one place - no searching needed. For goodness sake use your imaginations, please.

This thread has 4 groups of people:

    1. The op
    2. People who think it is unethical to knowingly steal
    3. People who are defending him, who have likely done a similar thing in the past and therefore feel attacked by 2s criticism
    4. Philosophy students

Can I had another? Law students- don't know about the US but in the UK there is a case for theft here (depends on the OP's state of mind though).

However, I'm thinking this is a

As long as Sony will use MPEG2 for their blu-ray release, they will fail. The first BD50 release was done last week (Click) and the PQ is still subpar compare to HD-DVD. THere is no excuse for such a poor release.

    *rolls eyes*

I'm gonna say this again: not happening. Lion may very well be the end of OS X in the sense that they give it a new version number and use new naming conventions but iOS and OS X are not merging in the sense that OS X will be locked down like iOS.

General purpose computers versus what are still treated consumer electronics (phones, tablets, etc.) have different needs and their OSes are different. Are there rumors about Windows 7 being superseded by Windows Mobile? How about doing away with Ubuntu in favor of Android?

There are a lot of components that the two OSes share. They will continue to share components and will continue to, more or less shape one another. It doesn't make any sense to lock down a computer. Developers are what make a platform. Locking down a computer like the iPhone and making it hostile to developers will KILL Apple.

Take your tinfoil hats off people. If you think we're heading toward a day when I can only install Apple approved AppStore apps on my laptop, you're just being paranoid. It doesn't help Apple AT ALL to do that.

I really *like* the fact that the OS X and iOS groups seem to be talking to each other and sharing ideas with each other, rather than being in squabbling little camps that snipe at each other like you see at Microsoft.

The ad is very good and does point out that AT&T has a long way to go. I'm not sure why AT&T is that far behind but whatever. I still have great phone service with AT&T, almost no dropped calls and the ability to change phones with the swap of a sim card. Life is good.

wow the iOS/Apple closed ecosystem must really be the WORSE THANG EVAR if google is trying to trying to do it.

    Everyone's just a hypocrite..

Android is "closed"... an open system would be a Linux one where you can chop and change every part of the system right down to the kernel. Not gonna happen with mobile devices without hacking IMO.

It's certainly possible that the next version of iLife that will ship with Lion-based Macs will be ad supported and provide a link to MAS to get rid of the ads, but we aren't there yet. ;)

    Not possible.

PS... Still got the silly giggles from thinking about the upcoming MS App store. :D:p:eek::p
You do know that Windows had an App Store before OS X, but it got axed due to it being badly implemented which resulted in lack of custom? All they are doing there is returning and improving one of their own features, not copying Apple.

You kinda proved her point, rb.

I'm not refusing to blame the mayor. Him and the governor of Louisiana are complete morons. They're partially to blame for the amount of people who couldn't evacuate before the storm (they made no attempt to help.)

HOWEVER Bush IS partially to blame for the slow federal response. #1 he elected the FEMA heads, neither of which had any clue how to do their job. #2 all of the needed equipment was in Iraq.

Unfortunately the real people to blame were the ones who decided to build a city in a bowl next to the ocean. But they're long dead, so thats no fun.

I've said this many times, EVERYONE ********* up a little (or a lot) during this tragedy.

Thank You, its nice to know there are some people that are sane. As I say there is plenty of blame to go around.

Hmm, I thought the way it was in the older Lion builds looked nicer.

The iOS slider does not make any sense when quickly looking at options on screen. One has to click-drag-release for the slider function to work, not a hugh problem on iOS since its on a small screen.

Considering that Mac OS is not touch based, makes additional steps to accomplish the same task and is less intuitive.

Applaud :apple: for the change, however neither option bothered me at all, I usually overcome the minor initial learning curve. ;):D
